Noxious Weed 

The main objective of the Geary County Noxious Weed Department is to control noxious weeds with the least damage to desirable vegetation at a minimum cost.

What Noxious Weeds Are

A weed is a plant that interferes with management objectives for a given area at a given point in time. Under the Kansas Noxious Weed Law, the state legislature has declared certain weeds noxious and requires citizens of the state to use approved methods to control and eradicate these weeds.

  • Leafy Spurge

  • Quackgrass
  • Russian Knapweed
  • Sericea Lespedeza
  • Woolly Leaf Bursage (Bur Ragweed)
  • Multiflora Rose

The weeds listed have been declared noxious because of their abundance; ability to reproduce, compete and spread rapidly or they may be toxic to humans or livestock. The most commonly recognized noxious weeds are Musk Thistle and Field Bindweed.

Chemicals for Sale

The county is authorized to sell pesticide products to agricultural landowners within the county at a reduced cost when these pesticides are used in the control of noxious weeds on privately owned land. Please call our office for current prices and availability.

Additional Services

The Geary County Noxious Weed Department manages the Household Hazardous Waste satellite facility. 

This facility serves to take these things out of the waste stream:

  • Automotive chemicals
  • Hazardous household materials
  • Herbicides
  • Latex paint
  • Oil-based paint
  • Pesticides

Usable materials are recycled, and latex paint is bulked together and distributed to the public at no charge. The Noxious Weed Department also oversees the recycle trailer located at the Household Hazardous Waste website.
