The juvenile division is responsible for filing all juvenile offender cases and child in need of care cases occurring in Geary County. A juvenile offender is any person between the ages of 10 and 18 that have committed a crime. Our office has several options when it comes to filing charges against these juveniles. The 8th Judicial District has implemented a youth court program and a diversion program which are offered to first-time offenders if they are eligible.
Care Cases
A child in need of a care case can be filed when allegations of abuse, neglect or runaway behavior is being alleged. These cases can be referred to us by SRS or law enforcement. A petition is filed in court and is brought before the juvenile judge.
